The Camden Central School District Board of Education appointed Dr. Ravo Root as its next Superintendent of Schools at its Board meeting on March 13. Dr. Root was selected after an extensive review of candidates and their credentials. This process concluded with full-day visitations to the school by two finalists.

Dr. Root has served as Superintendent of Schools in the Fillmore school district in Allegheny County since 2012. During that time, he has successfully implemented student programming, overseen capital projects, begun a 1:1 computing program, presented professional development programs to faculty, and engaged in long-range financial planning. Prior to becoming a Superintendent, he served as the Middle School Principal in the Pioneer school district for three years and as an Assistant Principal in the East Syracuse-Minoa school district for four years. While at Pioneer Middle School, his building received national and state recognition as a “School to Watch” in both 2008 and 2011. He also brings eight years of experience as a Social Studies teacher in ESM and at the Cortland Alternative High School program of OCM BOCES.

Dr. Root is currently a member of the NYSCOSS House of Delegates and serves as the Vice-Chair of the Cattaraugus-Alleghany County Superintendent’s Executive Leadership Committee. He is actively involved in his community and holds membership in multiple professional organizations. Dr. Root received his Bachelor degree in Education from LeMoyne, his Masters degree in Education from SUNY Cortland and his Educational Leadership and Doctorate in Education from Syracuse University.

“I am excited to join the Camden School family and become involved in the community right away.  Camden provides an environment where student learning is at the forefront of all decision making, coupled with a warm, neighborly, feel to it,” he said. “Both the district and I are committed to educating the whole child while providing engaging, meaningful learning experiences for all students.”

Dr. Root and his wife, Colleen, previously lived in Kirkville and their two children were born in Syracuse. Their son currently attends SUNY Potsdam and their daughter will graduate high school this year and attend Syracuse University in the fall.

“In many ways, moving to Camden is like returning home,” he said. “I want to thank the Board of Education for this wonderful opportunity.”

Dr. Root will begin his new role on July 1. The Board of Education believes Dr. Root’s administrative and teaching experience will be an asset to the Camden Central School District and the entire community.

“The Board is pleased to welcome Dr. Ravo Root to the Camden Central School District and community as the next Superintendent. Dr. Root is an exceptional educational leader with a commitment to collaboration and communication. His experience and qualifications make him an outstanding fit for our district,” Board President Brandie Collins said. “The Board would like to also take this opportunity to thank the members of the focus groups who provided input, which was instrumental in this final decision.”
