Press Release Statement of Mrs. Mary Lynne Szczerba
Statement of Mary Lynne Szczerba
Superintendent of Schools
November 15, 2016
The District has been advised that on November 14, 2016, during an afternoon school bus run, a bus containing 10 Camden students was struck by a single BB fired by a child standing outside the bus. The BB left a hole of approximately one half inch in a center, side window of the bus. No one was hurt as a result of this incident. The driver immediately drove the bus to a safe location, assessed the situation, notified the police, and called the bus garage. Another bus was brought to transport the ten students on the bus to their homes.
Appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken to address the situation.
As in all such cases, the District is cooperating with law enforcement authorities.
Published reports indicate that the child would have been charged with criminal mischief, 10 counts of endangering the welfare of a child and 11 counts of reckless endangerment had he been an adult. However, due to the child's age, Family Court appearance tickets were issued instead.
Because federal law deems most personally identifiable information regarding students to be legally confidential, the District will not comment further on the case at this time.
