The Camden Girls Varsity Tennis Team got a long-awaited win on Monday, October 7th.
In the quarterfinal round of the Section III Class B Team Tournament, the Blue Devils were paired with the same team that eliminated them in 2023, South Jefferson. This time, an experienced Blue Devil side was determined to flip the script and get to the next round, and that was enough to prevent a repeat of history as they prevailed 3-2 at the Camden High School Tennis Courts.
The Blue Devils got the edge in the match through a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles by Lainie Liberatore, and victories from both doubles pairings.
Abigail Arnold and Alexis Albrecht won at first doubles 6-3, 6-3, and Dolmae Honrales and Rylee Greggains secured the most pivotal victory of the match with a three set win at second doubles that ultimately propelled the home side.
In first and third singles, Camden athletes put on a tremendous showing in a pair of defeats. McKenzie Allard fell by a narrow 7-5, 7-5 margin, and Hailey Heath rebounded from a 7-5 loss in the opening set with a 6-4 margin in the second set to send the match the full distance, where her opponent, Cecilia Cantera, claimed victory.
Camden, the fourth seed in the tournament, is back at it on Tuesday, October 8th for the semifinals against top-seeded Oneida. The match will start at 3:30 at Oneida High School.
