On Sunday, February 16th, the Camden Girls’ Varsity Wrestling team will compete in the Section III Girls’ Wrestling Championship held at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena. The Blue Devils will send nine athletes to the mats for a chance at Sectional championship glory and the opportunity to advance to the first-ever state meet with “state championship” status.
The Blue Devils are led by a pair of ninth graders with NYSPHSAA State Invitational experience. Abigail Hebble will be the top seed in a nine competitor field in the 165 class. Eight of her nine wins this year have come by pin. Rylie Meagher is seeded second in the 114 division with a record of 26-4, and has collected 11 of her 26 wins by technical fall.
11th grade student Astro Johnson is the third seed at 152, and has collected 19 of her 22 wins by pin.
Seventh grade student Elliot Dust will be the 11th seed in the 114 class, eighth grader Anzleigh Johnson will be seeded 13th in the 107 class, ninth grader Megan Renk drew the fourteenth seed at 126, and tenth grader Ellie Miller is seeded seventh at 138.
At 120, ninth grader Kamryn Gloude drew the twelfth spot, and tenth grader Lola Miller will enter as the sixteenth seed.
