Here at the Camden Central School District, we believe in the power of peer leadership as part of our professional development program. That leadership was on display this morning, as teacher leader and second grade teacher Sue Holmes facilitated a professional development session about phonics methodology for our teachers from pre-kindergarten to fourth grade. Attending teachers learned more about the Secret Stories phonics method, along with some tips and tricks for teaching students how to pronounce "Red Words" in the Orton-Gillingham method. They are called "Red Words" because a developing student has to generally stop and think before pronouncing them, as they may break phonemic conventions and cannot easily be sounded out phonetically.

Last night's Camden Elementary School Open House was very well-attended! It was great to see so many of our families come in to meet their student's teachers and classmates, and take a more personal level of involvement in the learning process. Thank you to our community partners who stopped in to provide information and other goodies as well. Led in their efforts by Miss Tayler Galusha, our Connected Community Schools team was able to partner with local salons to provide a free haircut to any student who wanted one.
