Hydroponic

At the Thanksgiving week Connected Community School Open HUB event, there was a fresh feature on offer for any families picking up grocery items. More than 10 large bags of lettuce were made available to go home with families in need, giving them easy access to some fresh produce on-site.

Open HUB events are held throughout the school year by Connected Community Schools. They are opportunities for students and families to come in, see the space, and access needed goods at no cost. The Connected Community Schools staff can also connect families with needed services outside of school if needed.

The fresh lettuce came from the hydroponic grow towers in Camden Middle School’s Agriculture Classroom. Throughout the process, students learned about crop care, food safety, and alternative methods of crop production.

This project was funded through a year-long "Living to Serve" grant from the National FFA organization. CMS students are eager to start growing more for the next Open Hub opportunity at CHS!
