When students visit the Counseling Office at Camden High School, a new face will be there to meet them as they chart their future. The Camden Central School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Amei Schmidt in the role of School Counselor for grades 9-12. Schmidt will work primarily with students whose last names are in the middle of the alphabet, alongside current counselors Tammy Kline and Christine Kio.
Schmidt joins the Camden CSD team from the Canastota Central School District. She is currently completing her graduate-level degree in School Counseling from SUNY Oswego, along with her Certificate of Advanced Study. She also holds a two-year degree in Graphic Design.
When choosing a profession, the Whitney Point, NY native saw an opportunity to help students much like her younger self.
“I knew I always wanted to help kids,” Schmidt said. “As a kid, I never really knew what I wanted to do, so I've turned that around into helping these kids figure out what they want to do. I want to help them find what they’re passionate about.”
She understands that relationships are a huge part of the work she is about to do at Camden, and is excited to get started on building those as soon as possible.
“I want to have a good impact on these kids and build strong relationships with them, and really see them through from their freshman year to when they graduate,” she said. “I think that’s so cool. And I just want to make a good impact on a good school.”
Amei resides in the Central Square area with her husband, in what she describes as a “Fixer-Upper Farmhouse.” When she’s not working with students, there’s a good chance she’s working on that. She also enjoys taking walks with her golden retriever, Walter.
Amei officially starts with the District following the upcoming Spring Recess.
