YMH Day 2024

A large group of Camden Middle School students participated in NYSSMA Solo Festivals recently. Festivals were held at Central Valley Academy on May 10th and 11th, and Mexico Academy on May 17th and 18th.
The festivals put students' musical skills to the test in a comprehensive manner. These students prepared a solo piece, and did scales and a sight reading exercise in front of highly qualified NYSSMA judges and adjudicators. Following their performance, they receive ratings and feedback from those individuals that they can use to become a stronger musician. This is a long process and an outstanding achievement for our young musicians!
Also, while we're here, let the record show that it makes us very proud to see students rocking the "Schools to Watch" commemorative t-shirts they received at the Middle School's recent initial certification assembly. Don't they look GREAT?!?

The CMS Marching Blue Devils went on an impressive weekend performance tour for Memorial Day! The band played at parades and ceremonies in Oneida, North Bay, and Taberg throughout the weekend.
If you saw them perform, we're glad you did! If you're looking for your chance, there are some big parades coming up!
On Saturday, June 1st, the band will follow the Yelllow Brick Road to play the Chittenango "Oz Parade" at 2 PM.
On Saturday, June 8th, they will play halftime at the Syracuse FC UPSL Game happening here at the CHS Stadium. Opening kickoff is set for 7 PM.
And on Sunday, June 9th, the band will play for a group of fourteen honorees, numerous other boxing greats, and legions of locals and supporters from all over the world at the Boxing Hall of Fame Parade in Canastota. That parade begins at noon.

A quick note from CMS Principal Brittany DerCola regarding construction's effects on ingress/egress at the Middle School.

6th grade English Language Arts students in Mrs. Gilsenan's classes embarked on an exciting and educational project that combined their love for food with their growing knowledge of grammar. The result? A creative and delicious venture called "Grammar Grub" — a food truck restaurant where every item on their custom made menus not only tantalizes the taste buds but also showcased various parts of speech!

The Camden Middle School Media Center honors those made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Happy Memorial Day, to our Camden Central friends and families.

Greenhouse management students know what all the "buzz" is about! Stay tuned!

Today students from Mr. Janes (3rd grade CES), Mrs. Lapier (6th grade CMS), Mrs. Wilcox (6th grade CMS), Mrs. Turner's (7th grade CMS) classes participated in their fish release in Mad River behind CMS.
This year the classes celebrated their 10th year working with the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club and Tug Hill/Black River Chapter of Trout Unlimited to raise Atlantic Salmon and Brook Trout in class!
Each year the clubs provide funding, equipment and learning opportunities to support classroom curriculum.
Students worked cooperatively with club volunteers today and learned more about the fish, their surrounding environment, and restoration efforts.
Students also rotated through educational stations learning about effects of overfishing, macroinvertebrates and stream health, and learned more about fish pathology via the Rome Fish Hatchery.
As always, the experience was a memorable one for our students and staff alike. Special thanks to Paul Miller and all the volunteers with the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club and Tug Hill/Black River Chapter of Trout Unlimited!

They always say "Don't Have a Cow", but we can't help ourselves.
We can't imagine a middle school career day without a cow now.

At the Sports and Fitness Career Day station, some of our middle school students tested their strength against Dr. Mitch from the MVPT Camden Office!

Then....... and Now.
Thanks to Jacob Clark '11 for visiting us at CMS for eighth grade career day! Jacob came by to discuss his work with the New York State DEC Environmental Conservation Police as one of many speakers we had today.

The next few days are going to move along quickly for Blue Devil Athletics! Section III Tournament Play is here.
Also on Wednesday, catch Unified Basketball in action at home against VVS! That game will tip at 4:15 if you'd like to come support the team.

On Friday, Camden Middle School hosted representatives from the Essential Elements Schools to Watch program for an initial designation ceremony.
The school community was presented with their initial designation banner, and the Camden community had a few surprises for our students as well! To celebrate, each student received a commemorative t-shirt designed by student Kenleigh VanWinkle and provided through the generosity of Mystic Stamp and the Sundman Family. There were also cupcakes in classrooms compliments of our local Tops store.
This is a significant milestone, but it is as much a new beginning as it is a culmination. Schools can re-apply to keep their designation every three years, and staff and students will be striving to uphold the standard they've created in the years ahead.

You should come to the CMS Play, "Miss Nelson is Missing" if you didn't come last night.
With a full auditorium, maybe we can convince our villainous substitute teacher character, Viola Swamp, to let her Room 207 students out for recess. She didn't feel like it on opening night, that's for sure.
6:30. Free Admission. Come support our students!

Animal Science students spent class learning about genetic traits in livestock and were able to build their own "rebop's." (Marshmallow Animals!)

Greenhouse Management students worked hard today to create floral arrangements for a community benefit! Learning to do, Doing to learn, Learning to live, Living to serve!

Oaklyn loves to visit Mr. Evangelist and the ENTIRE District Office!

Last night, we had a tremendous turnout for our 2024 District-Wide "Growing With The Arts" Art Show! Thanks to everyone who came to support our young artists at this incredible showcase of their talents!
