It's "Sap Season" folks! Today Mrs. Willson prepared an engaging lesson about where maple syrup comes for the agricultural elective. Willson also gave the students an opportunity to taste test real syrup vs fake syrup. Students were surprised by the ingredient difference between real and fake syrup!
Good Afternoon,
Due to the anticipated poor weather conditions this evening, our Grade 5 Music in Our Schools Month Concert has been rescheduled for Monday, March 20th at 7:00pm.
One opportunity students have when being in FFA is the opportunity to participate in Career Development Events (CDE). Today students learned one of the many aspects of the event, floral nomenclature. Students identified 20 various flowers and learned that not every flower is a "tulip."
The newest addition to the agriculture classroom is slower than most. Three snails have been added to the agriculture classrooms aquaponic system as part of one students special project. The special project is observing how live aquatic ecosystems can make plants thrive.
Twenty-nine 8th grade students at Camden Middle School were inducted into National Junior Honor Society on Wednesday, March 8. Highlights of the evening included a candlelight ceremony, a slideshow honoring the new members, and special music selections performed by CMS's jazz band and orchestra members. Congratulations to all of our CMS NJHS members!
Have you seen the February edition of the Camden Connections Newsletter yet?!? Check it out online at https://5il.co/1qaxh. We also have a limited number of extra copies available in the District Office if you need one!
There was quite the "BUZZ" in the agriculture classroom during 8th and 9th period today! CCE Agriculture Educator Colleen McEwen educated the agriculture elective students about bees today. Students now know how honey gets from the hive to the jar and what delicious honey tastes like.
On Friday the Agriculture Elective learned to use rose petals in a new way. Students worked creatively to make drawings come to life with dried rose petals of all colors.
There is never a dull moment in the agriculture room! This 20 weeks one of the Agricultural electives is based on students preferences. One student has decided to grow "Loofahs" in the aeroponic systems. After just 1 week the Loofahs are off to a running start. More to come!
The Animal Science elective has taken advantage of the nice weather the past two days! Students have taken the class pets on walks around the middle school. The animals enjoy the fresh air and the students enjoy the exercise!
We have our 3D printer up and running in our makerspace. Here a student watches a die being printed.
Mrs. Johnson's reading class made a Valentine's Day craft from the heart! Using a hand for a tree and fingerprints for heart leaves, students made a one-of-a-kind gift.
Middle school students were introduced to a new coding application called Bitsbox!
This program teaches kids to build simple apps by writing real, text-based computer code. The coding language used is a variant of JavaScript, with the addition of a few dozen special commands (words, basically) that make it easier for newcomers and young learners to build cool stuff quickly.
Sixth grade students Addison Shovlin and Delilah VanSlyke were able to change the background in the software, add a pie, and make the virtual pie explode. They also added a robot to the screen and made it dance. While working in a fun virtual environment, these students had the opportunity to learn some of the fundamentals of professional programming that they may be able to use later in life!
After two short months the agriculture classrooms strawberries are finally ready to harvest! The strawberries are grown in aeroponic systems that have controlled light, water, and nutrient levels. Each plant is producing 3 strawberries at this point and time. With this positive outcome the agriculture classroom will be growing more in the future! Today is a “BERRY” good day!
Students can stop into the Middle School Media Center to see our newest display. "Can my first line get me checked out?" Books are wrapped up and the only identifying marks are the first lines of the book, printed on the wrapping paper. Check out a surprise book today!
Scenes from Wednesday's girls' modified volleyball match at New Hartford!
The Camden Schools are closed today due to inclement weather.
Congratulations to Camden Middle School Principal Brittany DerCola! Brittany was named the "Educator of the Game" at last night's Utica Comets home game!
Students never have nothing to do in SS. There is a working jigsaw puzzle in Mrs. Richards 6th grade SS room.
Stop in the middle school library and see our display of new books on the real story behind some of your favorite foods!
