Happy Thanksgiving
Floral design students at Camden Middle School were hard at work this week! Students created 14 arrangements for staff to enjoy during Thanksgiving. Students spent the day stopping into the agriculture classroom to check if their arrangements had found a home with a staff member. The students left beaming when they found out their creations found a loving home! The learning opportunity was made possible by local funeral homes!

Camden's agriculture program had their first donation of lettuce to the open grocery HUB pickup today! Greenhouse management students and FFA members worked hard to produce over 10 large bags of lettuce. Students learned about proper food safety as well as alternative crop production through the "Lettuce Support our Community" project! The project was funded through a year long "Living to Serve" grant from the National FFA organization. Students are eager to start the growing process to produce more lettuce for the next grocery pickup at the Camden High School HUB!

Mrs. Willson's 6th grade homeroom at CMS celebrated Thanksgiving. Students completed a "plate project" where students showed gratitude and kindness to each other through written sentiments. They also completed a Thanksgiving project to bring home. No Thanksgiving celebration would be complete without PIE! Happy Thanksgiving!

Pie Time
Each student had their own setting.
Before they arrive.
At the beginning of the month, the students started working on a StickTogether puzzle. They finished it just in time for Thanksgiving to reveal this beautiful turkey. 🦃 several students worked on the puzzle, but in the photos you will see the 7th grade lunch bunch who completed the puzzle. Thank you to all who helped complete the task.

The Camden Central School District is proud to announce that Agriculture teacher Karly Marshman is the recipient of a 2024 Outstanding Educator Award from the Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley Region. The award was presented on Thursday, November 21st, 2024 at the 18th Annual Genesis Group “Celebration of Education” at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro. The Genesis Celebration of Education is an awards ceremony recognizing excellence in education across the Mohawk Valley region. It includes honorees from public schools, private schools, parochial schools, BOCES, and colleges/universities across the area. Camden has been a fixture at the ceremony recently, with the District’s Camp Sum-More-Fun enrichment program and Special Education Summer Program receiving honors. Marshman was recognized for her efforts in building an Agriculture Education program at Camden. She was presented with her award by longtime friend of the district Maria Smith, who has been instrumental in bringing Drone/Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems educational programming to our Camp Sum-More-Fun summer program for several years. On Friday, November 22nd, the Camden Central School District and Camden Middle School were honored to host Regent Patrick A. Mannion from the New York State Board of Regents. The Board of Regents are the supervisory body for all educational activities in the state of New York, and meet monthly to shape the state’s education policy. Mr. Mannion represents our area, the Fifth Judicial District, on the board. He took office in March 2024 after being elected to a three-year term in the joint legislative session. Ever since, the Onondaga County resident has been touring schools in the area he represents to get to know his constituents. During his visit to Camden, Mr. Mannion received a tour of some areas that have defined Camden Middle School’s evolution into a National/New York State “School to Watch”. To start, he learned about the role our Connected Community Schools partnership plays in the well-being of our students. He also saw our new turf baseball field, and visited our agriculture program. In the agriculture room, one of our resident teacher/farmers, Brianne Willson, was able to give a brief overview of the space and the curriculum. Before he departed, Mr. Mannion led CMS Student Leadership members in a roundtable discussion about the challenges and opportunities in modern education from a student’s perspective, and our students came prepared with outstanding questions and suggestions! Thank you for coming to visit us!

You know about Motorcycles..... but what about a Willy Wonka Motorcycle? We've got one on display for our CMS Musical Performances of "Willy Wonka Jr.", thanks to the generosity of Mr. Ron Engel! For a small donation before the show, you can have your photo taken with this incredible work of art, with proceeds to benefit future musical productions at CMS. During the school day, it is living in the CMS Library Media Center along with a curated collection of books by the story's author, Roald Dahl. If you know how many miles per gallon it gets running on a tank of Wonka's Fizzy Lifting Drinks, please let us know. It's for science.
