The CHS Morgan's Message Club is back for another year raising awareness of the importance of student-athlete mental health! This year, the club has grown from one student ambassador, Ryen Lago '24, to four: Grady Salmon '28, Aubrey Mitchell '28, Lilly Ritenour '27, and Kamryn Gloude '28.

The club, led by advisor Michelle Mellon, has worked with our athletic programs to organize two upcoming dedication events:

On Wednesday, September 24th, the girls' varsity tennis team hosts Oneida for a 3:30 PM start. The club ambassadors will read a short message before the game, and will have a table handing out pamphlets, bracelets, and stickers.

On Thursday, October 2nd, the boys' varsity soccer team will host Holland Patent, and the club will be on hand again with their info table, fundraiser raffles, a photo opportunity, and a visit from the Mr. Squeeze lemonade stand!

About Morgan's Message:
Morgan's Message is a national organization founded in memory of Duke University women's lacrosse student athlete Morgan Rodgers. Its mission is to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health challenges within the student-athlete community and help athletes take care of themselves in the mental aspect as much as they do the physical aspect of their sport. You can find out more at morgansmessage.org.

Mr. Petrie's Residential Structures class spent the last 2 weeks learning about plot plans and building lines. Students modeled a building layout using plywood, nails and string, keeping a critical eye on accurate measurements. Later, they got into groups of 4 and applied this knowledge to a full scale site. Groups took time to layout a perfectly square 8' x 12' building. They drove stakes and leveled line just like the professionals in the real world. By the end, students were ready for a (hypothetical) excavator to start digging!

On Wednesday, September 17th, the newest members of the Camden Central School District Board of Education participated in a welcome event for student board of education representatives in New York. Student representative Isabella Keller and alternate Ella Winters took part remotely alongside hundreds of their peers from across the state.

This event was presented by the New York State Education Department, the New York State School Boards Association, and create to provide new student board members with an understanding of their responsibilities, connect them with leaders, and celebrate the commitment they’ve made to serve their school and be part of the governance process over the next year.

The event included comments from NYSSBA Executive Director Robert Schneider, NYSSBA President Sandra Ruffo, NYS Education Commissioner Betty Rosa, and multiple members of the State Legislature. There was also a question and answer period.

Isabella and Ella are serving one year terms. Their role is an advisory role created to provide guidance and perspective from the student body at each meeting, and is an ex officio, non-voting position on the board.

Larry Fiume was selected to the All-State band.
Larry’s selection for the conference is a testament to his dedication, independence, and commitment to continual growth as a musician. I am thrilled for him, and I am confident he will thrive in the opportunity to perform alongside other talented high school musicians who share his passion and musical ability. - Matt Donaleski, CHS Band Director

Yesterday, the Camden girls' tennis program paid tribute to its Class of 2026 with the annual senior day observance! The Blue Devils recognized seniors Abigail Arnold, Alexis Albrecht, Mina Jones, and Autumn Porter for their years of dedication to the program before their home match against Holland Patent. The squad celebrated in style with a second clean sweep of the Golden Knights in as many days, which improves their TVL Pioneer Division record to 3-1. Way to go!

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 9th, the Camden CSD Board of Education welcomed its new student representative for the 2025-26 school year. Senior Isabella Keller took her new seat at the end of the Board table, where she will advise the board on student-related matters and offer updates directly from student leadership over the course of the year.

In her absence, the selected alternate, senior Ella Winters, will have the opportunity to serve in the same role.

This position is an ex-officio (non-voting) advisory role created from a new directive for all school districts and BOCES statewide to add a student board position. This is a welcome opportunity to help students immerse themselves in public service, and learn firsthand about what holding public office can entail on a local level.

Welcome, Isabella!
