The Camden Blue Devils varsity boys bowling team brought a quality performance to the 2023 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Bowling Championships held on Sunday, March 12th. The Blue Devils inked a fifth place team finish in Division II at the tournament held at Strike N’ Spare Lanes in Syracuse.
A combined team score of 2,935, and a total pinfall of 5,727 determined Camden’s place in the Division II standings.
Leading the way for Camden was Koen Turner. The senior turned in a performance for the ages in his final interscholastic tournament. Turner placed second in Division II with an average score of 227.17, and a series score of 1,363. He was just five points off the pace set by newly crowned 2023 state champion Josh Zajac of West Seneca East, Zajac had an average game of 228 for the tournament. Turner’s high game of 258 was eighth-best in the tournament, and he dipped under 200 just once over his six-game series.
Ayden Gerow was 22nd for the Blue Devils, and averaged a score of 184.83. He closed with his best game of the tournament, with a score of 204 finalizing his series score of 1,109.
Ben Abrams placed 29th with a score of 1,087 and Quinlan Wing was 30th with a total of 1,075 among full-series bowlers for the Blue Devils.
Braylon Lyke, Gabe Lallier, and Patrick Janes shared a series for the Blue Devils as well, with Lyke marking down a 255 in one of his three appearances for the 11th-highest game of the Division II tournament.
