The results of voting on the Camden Central School District's 2023-24 proposed budget, and Board of Education election have been tabulated and are as follows.

Shall the Board of Education of the Camden Central School District be authorized to expend a sum not to exceed $56,326,029 as set forth in the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 and to levy the necessary taxes therefore?

Votes cast in favor of the proposition: 461

Votes cast against the proposition: 414

RESULT: The resolution passes.

Board of Education Elections

In the matter of electing board members to fill the four contested at-large vacancies for the Camden Central School District, the vote tallies were as follows, in the order of a candidate’s appearance on the ballot:

Misty Portner: 495
Thomas Fanning: 459
Katherine Stone: 568
Lindsey Burdick: 303
John Dean: 405
Laird Petrie: 530

The three candidates receiving the highest vote totals are elected to three year terms concluding in 2026. The candidate receiving the fourth-highest vote total is elected to fill a recently vacated seat and serve the remaining year of that term, concluding in 2024.

In order of votes received, the candidates received votes as follows:

Katherine Stone: 568
Laird Petrie: 530
Misty Portner: 495
Thomas Fanning: 459
John Dean: 405
Lindsey Burdick: 303

RESULT: Katherine Stone, Laird Petrie, and Misty Portner have been elected to serve three year terms on the Board of Education. Thomas Fanning will receive a one year term.

Absentee Ballot Procedure

Qualified voters who wish to vote using an absentee ballot can request an application from the District Clerk.

Completed applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on May 10th, 2023 in order to receive an absentee ballot by mail.

Any applications received after May 10th must appear in person at the District Clerk’s office, 51 Third Street, to pick up an absentee ballot. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5 p.m. on May 16, 2023. Completed ballots received after this time cannot be accepted.

Members of the public may vote on the proposed 2023-24 budget, and for available Board of Education seats on Tuesday, May 16th 2023.

The polling place will be the Camden High School Auditorium Lobby, and voting hours will be from Noon to 9 PM.

Who Can Vote?

A qualified voter....

Must be a citizen of the United States

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must be a resident of the school district at least 30 days prior to the meeting which he/she offers to vote.

Must not be prohibited from voting under the provisions of Section 5-106 of the Election Law (having been convicted of a felony or adjudged mentally incompetent)

Must present proof of residence with a picture, such as a driver’s license or non-driver identification.

The Camden Central School District Board of Education will have four vacancies available as part of the upcoming May 16th election. The three candidates with the highest vote totals will be awarded three year terms concluding in 2026. The candidate receiving the fourth-highest vote total will fill a recently vacated seat and receive a one year term concluding in 2024.

The following candidates have completed the requirements to seek office and will appear on the ballot. They are listed in the order they appear on the ballot.
