Congratulations to the Camden Central School District Odyssey of the Mind program on recording one 1st Place and one 2nd Place team finish in regional competition on Saturday, March 11th at Johnstown High School.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international short-term and long-term problem-solving competition held each year.
These hard-working and creative students have been planning and preparing to solve their long-term competition "problems" since September. Students must create a solution under a wide range of carefully-designed guidelines designed to put their critical thinking skills to the test. While demonstrating traits such as creativity, teamwork, and perseverance, students also learn how to maximize every dollar and be resourceful under strict budget rules for the competition.
On the day of competition, each team must also work together to solve a prescribed short-term problem on-site with no prior knowledge of the material. This portion of the competition serves as a proving ground for the skills students develop throughout the year.
Both Camden squads will advance to compete at the state tournament, which will be held on April 15th at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Teams will take the time between the regional and state competitions to refine their work based on feedback from the regional judges. The top teams at the state level will advance to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Michigan State University.
The team is coached by CHS Teachers Jessica Harney and Melanie Callahan.
