Students and staff at Camden Middle School have spent the school year participating in the Children’s Book Council Favorites program. Children’s Favorites is a national reading program organized by the nonprofit Children’s Book Council.
Young people, teachers, and librarians at 80 rural, suburban, and urban locations across the country read and voted for their favorite new children's books during fall 2022, and their top picks – Children’s Favorites - comprise a classroom and library resource for 2023.
Beginning in the summer of 2022, books from over 100 publishing companies began to arrive at Camden Middle School. By November, over 300 newly-published books were received, labeled, and housed in Dr. Tara Baker’s classroom library and were set to be read! See the photo above to see this impressive collection of books!
By the end of the reading and voting period, over 80 votes were submitted by CMS staff members, and over 390 votes were submitted by CMS students!

The tabulated ratings submitted by Dr. Baker and the other coordinators across the country have created the Favorites Award for Children in three grade levels, a Young Adult Favorites list, a Teacher Favorites Award, and a Librarian Favorites Award. Each Children’s list consists of 40 books per category. The Teacher and Librarian Award lists consist of 160 top-rated books from 2022. The Favorites Lists are being shared widely as an essential resource for teachers, librarians, and booksellers.
