Mrs. Dacey’s MVCC Personal/Business Law class recently continued their tradition of bringing accomplished guest speakers to the classroom to discuss their experiences. On the invitation of junior Lily Price, the class welcomed the Honorable Greg Amoroso, Rome City Court Judge, to Camden High School.
Hon. Amoroso discussed a variety of topics and addressed student questions. The class learned a lot about becoming an attorney, and about the transition to becoming a judge. He offered students a glimpse into his real-world experiences working criminal court cases involving drugs, and civil cases involving landlord/tenant disputes, claims of less than $15,000, small claims of less than $5,000, and general business law practices.
Our guest also discussed procedural justice with the students, and expressed that as a judge, he understands the importance of being heard in the courtroom, and that “Nobody should be judged by their worst day.”
He also reminded the students that the role of judge in a courtroom is not to determine who wins or loses, but to ensure that procedural law is followed and that the evidence and facts are paramount in deciding the case. Ultimately, the outcome is to get to justice.
Thank you for sharing your time and experience with our students!
