Mrs. Dacey’s MVCC Business and Personal Law Class at Camden High School recently welcomed one of the Queen Village’s most visible law enforcement officials into the classroom. On Wednesday, December 18th, Chief Sean Redden from the Camden Police Department stopped by to talk with students about careers in law enforcement.
Redden told the class that he has wanted to be a police officer since childhood, and discussed his pathway to his current role that includes military service with the United States Air Force, National Guard, and the Eastern Air Defense Sector.
Students had several questions about pathways into the police department, and the Chief was glad to discuss the full-time and part-time opportunities available with his agency and others in the area.
Redden also gave the class an overview of the type of incidents he generally sees in his current role. The most common are vehicle and traffic violations, and drug-related offenses and domestic violence cases also take up a considerable portion of the Department’s workload each year.
He also drew on his experience as a village police chief to lead a conversation about jurisdiction, and procedural law. While Camden maintains a police force of its own, it is not uncommon for the agency’s partners at the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police to be involved in maintaining order in the Village of Camden, and the latter two agencies also service the area encompassing the Camden Central School District.
The class would like to take an opportunity to thank Chief Redden for offering some of his time, as well as for his dedication to serving the community and his country.
