Abigail Hebble

On Thursday, February 27th, Camden High School student-athlete Abigail Hebble will mark the latest milestone in the short but sweet history of the Camden Girls’ Wrestling program. Hebble is set to compete in the inaugural New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls’ Wrestling Championship. The tournament will be held at MVP Arena in Albany, formerly known as Knickerbocker Arena, Pepsi Arena, and Times Union Center. Wrestling begins at 10 AM.

The inaugural championship event comes after consecutive seasons where the season concluded with NYSPHSAA’s state-wide girls’ wrestling invitational. This was held while the sport was recognized under emerging sport status. The rapid growth of the sport continued to the point where state championship status was awarded for 2025. Camden athlete Rylie Meagher attended the first invitational in 2023, and placed third in class. Hebble and Peyton Kelley had the honor of joining Meagher in 2024, with Kelley landing on the podium.

Hebble, a ninth grader, was recently crowned as the 2025 Section III champion at 165 pounds with a decision victory over Jasmine Ousley of General Brown. Ousley made the state tournament as a wild card entry. On her run to the title, she defeated Homer’s Eila Spanbauer by decision to settle up a defeat from earlier in the season. The third year varsity wrestler carries a record of 12-5 into the state tournament, with nine of her twelve victories coming by pin.

She will carry the designation of being the tenth seed into Thursday’s round of 16, where she will match up with Shaker’s Elizabeth Williamson out of Section II. Williamson is the seventh seed.
