Mary Lynne Szczerba

CAMDEN, NY - The Camden Central School District is pleased to announce that Mary Lynne Szczerba will serve in the position of Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Szczerba will serve the District in this role for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year in place of Jason Evangelist, who is serving as Interim Superintendent of Schools during the same time period. This change takes effect immediately.

In this interim role, Szczerba will be immediately responsible for the supervision of instruction, and the continued implementation of instructional initiatives across the District. She will also assist the District as it evaluates candidates for Elementary Principal roles. 

Szczerba will utilize her unparalleled combination of experience in the position, and familiarity with the District to serve all students, families, and staff. She spent 23 years in Camden schools as a teacher and administrator, including eight years as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She was also the Superintendent of Schools from 2014 until the end of 2017.

At the building level, she served as McConnellsville Elementary School principal from 1998 to 2006, and was also a reading and mathematics teacher at McConnellsville.

With over two decades invested into the District and its people, Szczerba saw an fulfilling and exciting opportunity to continue that work into the present day with many familiar faces around the District.

“I am looking forward to returning to the Camden Central School District,” Szczerba said. “It was always an honor and a privilege to serve the Camden Community as a teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Superintendent before retiring several years ago. When I was asked to serve again, I immediately responded that I would be happy to assist in any way possible. The Camden Central School District community has a very special place in my heart. I am truly looking forward to this opportunity and to working with the students, staff, parents, Board of Education, and community. I can’t wait to start!”
