VERONA, NY - Two student-athletes from the Camden High School varsity cross country team represented our District and community to an exceptional degree as they competed at the 2022 New York State Public High School Athletic Association State Cross Country Championships held on Saturday, November 12th at Vernon Verona Sherrill High School.
Seniors Ivy Murphy and Jerome Seidl got the opportunity to represent Camden at the state level after exemplary performances at the Section III meet held on the same course a week earlier. The venue presented a new challenge at states, with some wet conditions affecting the lower portions of an already challenging course.
Murphy attended her second state meet after running as part of Camden’s 2019 state championship team. In her first appearance as an individual qualifier, she got around the five kilometer course with a time of 22:35, and placed 78th out of 116 competitors in Class B. Ivy ran against a stacked field that included the state’s fastest high school distance runner in any classification. She improved on her 80th place finish from the 2019 meet, back when the Blue Devils were competing in Class C.
Seidl got the chance to compete at a second consecutive state meet as an individual. He improved on his 59th place finish from 2021, with a 57th place finish this time around. Seidl finished his five kilometer race with a time of 18:30 while competing against 114 others in Class B. He was the third-fastest competitor from Section III in the race, and the fastest to be competing as an individual. In addition to great performances at the Section III and New York State Championships, Jerome is the 2022 Tri-Valley League Boys’ Champion.
Congratulations to both student-athletes on a job well-done!
