CES Student Council With Toys For Tots Representatives

CAMDEN, NY - The Camden Elementary School Student Council has been hard at work helping others this holiday season. The students have been working with food pantries, the Salvation Army, and the United States Marine Corps to make sure people who need help can receive it during the Winter months.

To raise money, the Council held its second annual Turkey Feather Competition. Students had the opportunity to purchase feathers for a paper turkey hanging outside of their classroom for 50 cents each, or could “steal” feathers from another class for their own turkey for a dollar. The class with the most feathers was declared the winner. Mrs. Paul’s fourth grade class was the winner, and celebrated with an ice cream sundae party.

With the funds raised, council members donated the funds to assist the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. With the help of third and fourth grade classrooms, the council was able to purchase almost $500 worth of toys. Co-President Mackenna Arnold and treasurer Hope Johnson helped pick out the new, unwrapped toys to donate.

The students met with representatives from Toys for Tots to hand off their donations on Monday, December 12th at Camden Elementary School. The organization was very pleased with the students’ generosity, and provided the students with wristbands signifying them as honorary Toys for Tots Elves.

The students have also been working on collecting food and hygiene products for the local food pantry.

On Saturday, December 3rd, Student Council members volunteered their time to ring the bell for the Salvation Army’s “Red Kettle Campaign” at the Kinney Drugs pharmacy location in Camden!

The District extends its congratulations and salutations to these students for their work in making Camden Elementary, and the Camden community, stronger. Each student is learning and acting upon the value of helping others during this special time of giving.
