They always say "Don't Have a Cow", but we can't help ourselves.
We can't imagine a middle school career day without a cow now.

At the Sports and Fitness Career Day station, some of our middle school students tested their strength against Dr. Mitch from the MVPT Camden Office!

Then....... and Now.
Thanks to Jacob Clark '11 for visiting us at CMS for eighth grade career day! Jacob came by to discuss his work with the New York State DEC Environmental Conservation Police as one of many speakers we had today.

The next few days are going to move along quickly for Blue Devil Athletics! Section III Tournament Play is here.
Also on Wednesday, catch Unified Basketball in action at home against VVS! That game will tip at 4:15 if you'd like to come support the team.

Baseball and Softball Brackets are out! Baseball will be the 3 seed and will play a first round game on Tuesday. Softball is the top seed, and will get the winner of Cortland and Oneida on Thursday in a quarterfinal.

Keep your eye on the ball, they said. So he did.

Some of the many highlights from this year's Senior Show at Wednesday's District-Wide Art Show! We were very impressed by what the Class of 2024 had to offer as we walked the halls at CHS, and the commitment to high quality work and attention to detail showed in each piece.

If you left the art show thinking about dinner, there's a chance our CHS students helped. Check out these appetizing sculptures from the Studio in Ceramics Class!

On Friday, Camden Middle School hosted representatives from the Essential Elements Schools to Watch program for an initial designation ceremony.
The school community was presented with their initial designation banner, and the Camden community had a few surprises for our students as well! To celebrate, each student received a commemorative t-shirt designed by student Kenleigh VanWinkle and provided through the generosity of Mystic Stamp and the Sundman Family. There were also cupcakes in classrooms compliments of our local Tops store.
This is a significant milestone, but it is as much a new beginning as it is a culmination. Schools can re-apply to keep their designation every three years, and staff and students will be striving to uphold the standard they've created in the years ahead.

It's a long way from Graceland, but we'll certainly take an Elvis appearance in the CMS Spring Production, "Miss Nelson is Missing."
6:30 PM. Admission is free!

Over 20 CHS students from Mrs. Harney's MVCC Dual Credit US History Class, and a few tenth grade volunteers are out on their annual Florence Settlement Field Experience in the Florence Hill State Forest!
The Florence Settlement is a prominent local historic site that was once the site of a community of free African American farmers in the mid-1800s that was promoted through the efforts of abolitionist Stephen Meyers.
Meyers had secured land from fellow abolitionist Gerrit Smith with the purpose of creating a community where free Black People could own land, establish their own farms, and create economic and social opportunities for themselves in a time period where reaching these goals was especially challenging. It ran until about 1860, when pre-war tensions began to compromise the safety of the residents.
The students are assisting archaeologists with a survey of this historically significant site. Their late morning activity was to search and portions of the ground that show signs of human disturbance over a defined area. This is the sixth time Harney has taken a class here for a full day of field work.
Dr. Michael T. Lucas, Ph.D., the Curator of Historical Archaeology from the New York State Museum, has brought along a magnetic susceptibility meter to scan those areas. This device, in a very basic explanation, is a very sensitive metal detector that can analyze the surface it is scanning in greater detail.
More to come....

Camden Elementary students went on a virtual field trip right from the library! Using Google Expedition VR headsets, students in grades 2-4 were able to immerse themselves into places all over the globe...and beyond! They learned about various habitats, landforms, and even saw the surface of Mars!

You should come to the CMS Play, "Miss Nelson is Missing" if you didn't come last night.
With a full auditorium, maybe we can convince our villainous substitute teacher character, Viola Swamp, to let her Room 207 students out for recess. She didn't feel like it on opening night, that's for sure.
6:30. Free Admission. Come support our students!

Pictures from Varsity Baseball's 7-3 win over CVA on Thursday. The Blue Devils were led by Ryan Leos, who went 4-for-4 at the plate and struck out eight over five strong innings of relief work for the Blue Devils.

Board of Education president Katie Stone, and vice president Randi Swancott recently earned Level 1 Board Achievement Awards from the New York State School Boards Association. A Level 1 Board Achievement Award grants a Certificate of Recognition from the association based in Latham, NY.
Per the Association, this program was created to acknowledge school board members who are continually expanding their governance knowledge and skills. The program is comprised of four levels of achievement based on participation in NYSSBA's training events, workshops, events, and activities, along with taking on leadership roles within their own board such as President or NYSSBA Advocacy Liaison.

One of our favorite features of the District Art Show is the Outstanding Junior Artist display. This year's honoree was Dolmae Honrales! If you've been following along with us lately, you may know that Dolmae recently had work exhibited at the Everson Museum in Syracuse, and our attendees were delighted to see more of Dolmae's quality work right here at CHS!

Getting ready to go at CHS for today's Mock Crash Demonstration. Juniors and seniors will have the chance to witness a firsthand account of the stark consequences that impaired, or even distracted driving can have.

Last night, we had a tremendous turnout for our 2024 District-Wide "Growing With The Arts" Art Show! Thanks to everyone who came to support our young artists at this incredible showcase of their talents!
