BLUE DEVIL NEW STAFF SPOTLIGHT
In the coming weeks, we’ll introduce you to members of our Blue Devil family who are new, or are changing roles between buildings for the school year.
Today, we highlight Camden Elementary first grade teacher Chloe Cochran. She is a new employee, but is very familiar with the District as a 2019 CHS graduate. In her time as a student, she was part of the Camden volleyball program. After high school, she moved on to receive her degree from SUNY Brockport.
Her favorite thing about being an educator is watching her students learn something new.
“Watching my students' faces light up when they learn and comprehend something new,” she said. “They make me feel so happy every second of every day. We are all always learning something new, even me. Knowing that they continue to strive to be the best they can be makes me so proud.”
Her favorite thing about Camden is the warm and welcoming staff, a group that has most certainly welcomed her back with open arms.
When she’s not working with her energetic first graders, she loves spending time with her husband and their four dogs. She is also passionate about going to the gym and SHOPPING! You might also see her at our local Tops Supermarket, where she has continued in her role as an assistant office manager. She loves to see her students there!
We’ve said it before, and we’re glad to say it again. Welcome home!
Friendly Reminder: The Look at Me, I'm Three program will meet on Wednesday, 9/18 at 5:30 at CES. If you haven't already done so, and would like your child to attend, contact Patti Ferretti at pferretti@camdencsd.org as soon as possible.
This program is for students who will be Pre-K eligible for the 2025-26 school year. To attend Look at Me I'm Three this year, they must have their third birthday on or before December 1st, 2024. Mrs. Ferretti can answer any questions you have.
At CHS, our Global 10 students totally "Rule"! Mrs. Hastwell and Mrs. Philpott's ninth period class was learning about absolute monarchies, and sophomores Ella Lynch and Gabby Lebron were excited to show off the crowns they made!
On Friday, McConnellsville 1st, 3rd, and 4th graders celebrated Free Book Friday! During Free Book Friday, a group of students have the opportunity to take a book home for free off the Library Cart from Mrs. Malenowski. This week, Kindergarteners and Second Graders will get their turn.
The initiative is supported by community donations throughout the year, so if you have some great kids' books looking for a new home and a new generation of readers, reach out to Mrs. Malenowski at smalenowski@camdencsd.org and she can provide more information.

Members of our Camden CSD team are completing an exciting professional development seminar on the new SAM Labs Robotics Kits today at the District Office! Aimed at grades K-8, these kits will open new doors for programming and robotics education for our students while teaching critical thinking and problem solving along the way.
The Camden varsity field hockey team was in action on Friday with a challenging test against Morrisville-Eaton. Camryn Shenk had the Blue Devil goal, Rylie Meagher added an assist, and Alyssa Vera made seven saves in a 4-1 loss to the Mavericks, who reached the Section III Class D final a year ago.
Tonight, the JV and Varsity teams are both at Whitesboro. Match times are set for 4:30 and 6:00, respectively, at Whitesboro High School. Let's go Blue Devils!

In the coming weeks, we’ll introduce you to members of our Blue Devil family who are new, or are changing roles between buildings for the school year.
Today, we highlight Jacquelyn Seymour, who has taken a new role as an Information Processing Specialist in the District Office. She primarily works with the Instructional Technology Department in this position.
She is a 2008 graduate of Camden High School, and also attended Mohawk Valley Community College. She was most recently a teacher assistant at McConnellsville Elementary. She also has experience working with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division, and in Food Service. Her favorite part about being in education is working with the students and teachers, and she has continued to enjoy the supportive atmosphere being in Camden.
When she’s not working magic with technology, she enjoys softball and cheerleading. She is a mother of three children, including her two kindergartners pictured here. You might even see her pick up a shift at Avicolli’s from time to time.

Last night, McConnellsville K-4 staff, students, and families gathered under one roof to connect and learn more about each other at the annual McConnellsville Elementary School open house! Our Bobcat families certainly came out in large numbers to see what life at McVille is all about!
Students in Mrs. Kowalski’s 3rd Grade Class at CES are enjoying “Flashlight Friday!” They grab their favorite book, a flashlight and book buddy and enjoy some independent reading by the "campfire"! They even have some folding camp chairs for the full experience.
This week is National Arts in Education Week! We're grateful to have a school community that supports our students in their artistic pursuits, and a group of staff and students that consistently create top-notch work in the visual and performing arts!
When you come to a concert, play, musical, or art show, you let our staff and students know that their work matters greatly, so we hope to see you at these events throughout the year!

Getting ready to start first grade is always exciting, and in the blink of an eye, we're now about to finish our first full week of school!

Today, we’ll tell you more about our new High School Agriculture Teacher, Erin Curtis! You may have already seen Erin out and about, as she was very proactive in getting to know our students and families this spring. She is a recent graduate of SUNY Cobleskill, where she rocked this outstanding cap at graduation, and spent her high school years at Cazenovia.
As an eighth generation farmer, Erin has been very involved in agriculture throughout her life from the very beginning, and is especially passionate about dairy farming. She has been a major advocate for the Ayrshire Cattle Breed, which her family raises. She has amassed countless awards for showing her dairy cattle at major events like the New York State Fair, the World Dairy Expo, and the All-American Dairy Show.
Curtis is also the new High School FFA advisor, and recently led a group of Camden FFA members to competition at the New York State Fair. She will draw heavily on her experiences as an active member of her hometown chapter at Cazenovia. She was a state champion and national medalist in the FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event. Her brother, Andrew, is the current New York State FFA Treasurer for the 2024-25 school year.
Her favorite thing about Camden so far is meeting her students and seeing them get excited about animal agriculture.
When Erin’s not with her students, or with her cows, she is probably hiking or fishing.

The Blue Devils fell behind 2-0 in the first half, but showed a lot of determination in the second half to cut the lead to one on a simply fantastic goal from Emily Gilsenan. The Blue Devils gave their visitors all they could handle, but were unable to find an equalizer as they fell 2-1 in a TVL match. The team will be back on the pitch on Saturday morning when they head to the Copper City to take on Rome Free Academy.
The Camden Central School District is looking for a student-centered, detail-oriented candidate for the position of Substitute Registered Professional Nurse. The ideal candidate will possess their certification to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York, along with excellent communication skills and a passion for helping children.
This is a 10 month, as-needed opportunity with variable hours, and pays $25.00 per hour when on duty.

Tito, the guinea pig in Mrs. Willson's 6th grade math class, enjoys helping students during their W.I.N. period at Camden Middle School!
W.I.N stands for “What I Need” periods. They are a new addition to the program at Camden Middle School this fall. They are taking the place of ELA Lab, Math Lab, Learning Lab, and Guided Study.
W.I.N periods offer a flexible student-centered approach to learning, allowing teachers to group students based on their individual needs. This will allow our staff a better opportunity to provide targeted interventions and personalized instruction, and give students the support they need to thrive. And perhaps some time with a friend like Tito, too!
