Did you know that today, August 9th, was declared as "Connor Dean Day" in Oneida County?
Congratulations to our newest state champion on this awesome honor!
It just wouldn't be a carnival if we didn't have cotton candy! Brain Gain Institute students were learning all about the science behind cotton candy this week for a fun and interactive lesson!
Tomorrow is the final day for Brain Gain and the Kindergarten boot camp program. Per our sources, the Utica Zoomobile is coming to help celebrate the occasion!
Brain Gain and Kindergarten Bootcamp students are getting Physical Education instruction included for the first time as part of the second year of both programs! CHS PE teacher Katherine Migliori took the initiative to craft a full proposal for PE to be included this year, and she's done a great job with the younger students this summer!
Our Brain Gain Institute students are benefiting from additional literacy instruction this summer. In keeping with the carnival theme for this year's program, students read a book about the topic and then practiced their word association skills with some "Carnival Bingo"!
Need supply lists? We have them here!
Current lists from CMS and CES are posted, and we'll advise you of any further changes we may get. CHS does not have any sort of centralized list because of the variety in class schedules from student to student. The page also includes McConnellsville's special school supply announcement from earlier this week.
Have a question about supplies? Contact your building's main office and they can help get the answers you seek.
We're getting closer and closer to starting the year!

Almost 200 elementary students in the Camden Central School District are celebrating summer with a "Carnival of Learning" at Camden Elementary School! The students just finished up their first week of the 2023 season for our elementary enrichment programs.
We operate a pair of free two-week programs to serve students entering kindergarten through fourth grade: "Kindergarten Boot Camp" and "Brain Gain Institute".
"Kindergarten Boot Camp" has welcomed 38 students from across the District for this year's session. Participants are introduced to essential skills and a kindergarten classroom setting in a fun and relaxed environment.
"Brain Gain Institute" has 157 students enrolled from both elementary schools in the District. The program is for students entering first grade through fourth grade. During the program, students participate in a schedule of activities that help keep them engaged in the learning process, and prepare them for their upcoming grade level.
Participants in both programs get to make friends from around the district, and in many cases, have a chance to form a relationship with their classroom teacher for the upcoming year. They are also fed nutritious meals through our CCSD Summer Nutrition Program.
This marks the second year for both programs, and we have made changes to build on last summer's successes. For the 2023 season, we have added special area opportunities for students in art, literacy, physical education, and social emotional learning. (Stay tuned for more on these additions next week!)
These programs are presented in partnership with the LEAP Summer Enrichment program at Madison-Oneida BOCES.
Come on down to CHS today (8/1) for this free event!

At its June meeting, the Madison-Oneida BOCES School Business Officials group took time to honor Camden's newly-retired Assistant Superintendent for Business, Karl Keil, on his career serving our District and school districts across Central New York.
In addition to his participation in the School Business Officials group, Karl was on the board of the Madison-Oneida-Herkimer Healthcare Consortium and served as chairperson of the Madison-Oneida-Herkimer Workers' Compensation Consortium.
Special thanks to #MOBOCES Deputy Superintendent for Finance and Operations, Lisa Decker, for sending along this picture.
